Mid-fire Porcelain
This supremely white body is a dream to throw and trim. It is translucent at 1200C. This is the body of choice of Peter Collis who uses it to produce a range of thrown and built pieces up to 1 metre high. The body enables Peter to achieve a wide range of dramatic glaze effects with consistency. Shinkage at 1200C - 12% Vitreous at 1200C
The Process
Selected raw materials are carefully weighed and blunged into a thin slip. This is passed through a 120 mesh vibrating screen and two rare-earth magnetic separators en route to a modern polypropylene filterpress.
Slip is dewatered in the filterpress to produce cakes of the required hardness in 1-tonne batches. The cakes are pugged through an efficient stainless stell de-airing pugmill. They are checked to ensure optimal hardness before being packed in 10Kg polythene bags. |
