Handy hint for September.
RADOS Ceramic Medium
Why do I need a ceramic medium? Because ‘fritted’ glazes (Abbots clear, Abbots White etc) have no clay content in them…..nothing to bind them. They are literally ground glass and you are trying to suspend it in water. You are left with a film of water on top of your glaze. As you dip and remove the pot some glaze washes off. RADOS will suspend your glaze. The’ curtaining’ you used to get has gone away… and the glaze will not settle like a rock on the bottom of you container.
RADOS also hardens the powdered glaze on your pot enabling you to load the kiln without scuffing the powdered glaze.
RADOS will also help you to suspend your stains in both slips and glazes and assist when brush decorating by allowing the brush stroke to paint out smoother and further.
Recipe
- Stir 100 grams of powder into 1 litre water ( hot water)
- Leave to slake for 2 hours before using
- Add 20mls of liquid Rados to 1lt of glaze.
This is your liquid stock which can be stored indefinitely without deterioration.
It may thicken over time but is no worry.
Regards
John and Joan
